Midlands Veterans T/F League

(Windley)

Report from John Tornado Topliss

Well done to everyone.

Please find attached the results of the above meeting which show that the women finished in first place and the men in second place.  Well done everyone. The women finished up in second place overall and the men in third place overall which will mean that the women are definitely in the A final but the men could be in the A or B final. The finals are at Alexander Stadium on Sunday 14th September details will follow shortly. Unfortunately some of the results are wrong due to people competing in combined age group races but it does not affect the final points score.  I believe the corrected results are:

Women   800m

 W45                Sue Curry                       2.46.6

W35A              Pat Gorman                    3.01.1

W35B              Carol Woodfield               3.21.3

Women   3000m

W35A               Sue Curry                      12.09.0

W35B                Carol Woodfield             13.57.4

W50                  Pat Gorman                   12.32.4

MEN        3000m

Steve Marklew                                         9.56.0

Tony Hinchley                                          10.24.6

Steve Larcombe                                        11.00.6

There were some excellent performances at this meeting leading to five new club records.

1.    Donald Brown broke my M40 Long Jump record set back in 1988 with a great 6.28 to  add to his Senior Mens record also set in 1988.  I'm not talking to him.

2.    Kevin Brown regained his M40 Shot record which Donald took away from  him only a few weeks ago. Talk about nip and tuck.

3.    Pat Gorman set a new W50  3000m record, breaking Fleurs record by over 30 seconds set back in 2003.

4.    Fiona Smith broke her own W35 Shot Put record set in 2006.

5.    Maureen Lewington broke her own W60 Javelin record set in 2007.

Well done to everyone.     All the best   John T

P.S.    1.    To all my fans.  As you know we are short on walkers at the moment and I have been competing as No 2 to Gordon to get some points.  Well the good news is that I have made an improvement of over 20 seconds this year and if I am able to keep this up I could be pretty good in 21 years time.  How about that then.
